Bringing Louisa County History to Life!

“Using 3D Data as a Method for Architectural Analysis at Sylvania”

The Historical Society's Annual meeting will feature a presentation by Victoria Bitrick and Will Rourk of UVA's Architectural History program. The presentation will discuss the 3D documentation of Sylvania in Green Springs, utilizing 3D laser scanning to document and analyze the architectural design of Sylvania. Research combined 3D data and material evidence at Sylvania to discover the original floor plan of Sylvania and its subsequent additions.
Free and open to the public.                                                                  Reception to follow.

Seasonal Saturday: Free Family Day

Hands-on history fun! Each month focuses on a different topic and features living history demonstrations, hands-on children’s activities, and an old-fashioned, one-room schoolhouse lesson! These informative and educational events have something of interest to visitors of all ages.

Heritage Skills Workshop:
Light Up Your Life with Candles

November 8, 2025

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Did you know that while candles have been used for light for thousands of years, candle technology has changed very little over time. Join the Historical Society for a history lesson on candle technology and try your hand at crafting your own candles. Participants will make modern versions of historic dipped and molded candles, customized to each individual participant!
